How to choose

Canyoning in the Pyrénées Orientales runs from 41 € to 109 € across 13 tours, with durations ranging from a half day to a full day. Three intensity tiers cover every level. Beginners and families: the Molitg-les-Bains canyon and the Thuès hot spring canyons are rated "Everybody welcome" or "Occasionally sporty", starting at 41 €. Intermediate: the Gorges du Llech offers multiple "Sporty" options between 55 € and 80 €, with sessions up to 5h of abseiling, jumps and waterslides. Advanced: the Cady and Taurinya gorges on the Canigou massif push into "Very sporty" territory with full-day descents up to 109 €. The clearest decision rule: match duration to your fitness. Frequently asked questions

What is the most intense canyon in the Pyrénées Orientales?
The Cady and Taurinya gorges on the Canigou massif are the hardest options available, rated "Very sporty" or "Sporty" and structured as full-day descents starting at 107 €. Expect sustained technical sections through narrow granite slots.
Is there a canyon suitable for people with no experience?
Yes. The Thuès hot spring canyons are rated "Everybody welcome" and start at 54 €. The warm water from natural thermal springs makes the experience far less physically demanding than a standard cold-water canyon.
What makes the Thuès canyon unique compared to the others?
Thuès-les-Bains is a hot spring canyon: the water temperature is naturally warm thanks to geothermal activity, which significantly reduces the cold-shock factor. One operator, Ozone 3, even runs a 6h winter edition at 65 €.
How long should I expect to spend in the canyon?
Tours range from a half day to a full day. The Molitg canyon is 3h at 41 €, a solid introduction. The Llech gorge runs 3.5h to 5h. Full-day Cady/Taurinya combos go up to 109 €. Pick duration based on your fitness, not your ambition.
Which canyon gives the best rush for the price?
The Gorges du Llech at 55 € with Canyon Canigou delivers 5h of sporty canyoning, the highest duration-to-price ratio in this lineup. That is a full afternoon of abseils, jumps and canyon swimming for the price of a restaurant dinner.
Do I need to speak French to join a tour?
No. All 13 tours offer English-speaking guides. Several also cover Spanish and Catalan. The Explor'Addiction tour on the Llech even guides in Greek, French, Spanish and English.

Equipment

Operators provide wetsuits, helmets and harnesses. Bring swimwear to wear underneath, water shoes or old trainers with grip (no flip-flops), and a dry change of clothes for after. For full-day "Very sporty" descents like the Cady/Taurinya, add a small dry bag for personal items and high-energy snacks.

Getting there

Most meeting points are around Prades (Espace Alfred Sauvy) or Marquixanes, both reachable via the RN116 from Perpignan, roughly 45 km inland heading west toward the Canigou massif.
